GD Group forays into hotel sector, to open six properties by end 2019

Bengaluru-based GD Group has announced its major push into the hospitality sector with a plan to open as many as six properties by the end of 2019 under the brand name of Great Destinations Hotels and Resorts. Great Destinations Hotels & Resorts CEO and Founder, GD Balaji believes in a vision of becoming a premium global conglomerate with clear focus on each and every business vertical being the group’s ethos. Balaji felt this was the right time to expand their reach into the hospitality industry with the launch of two brands simultaneously under Great Destinations Hotels and Resorts. “We are not new to the hospitality sector as the family-owned group was already operating a large star hotel in the heart of Bengaluru. We have completely demolished it and a brownfield hotel is coming up in its place. InterGlobe Hotels in partnership with AccorHotels has announced the launch of the economy brand with the opening of ibis Kolkata Rajarhat. The hotel features a 2,457 sq. ft pillar less meeting space which can further be divided to three smaller rooms with capacity for up to 250 guests, one of the largest MICE banquet spaces for an ibis. The hotel will also feature a revamped food offering at Spice It, serving home-style international comfort food and regional cuisines. As with all ibis hotels, it will serve India’s longest-running breakfast, starting from 4 am until noon. Commenting on this occasion, J.B. Philippine company plans hotel near Bohol-Panglao Airport

Philippines-based Duros Land Properties, a subsidiary of the Duros Group, reportedly is negotiating with China’s Hang Lü Group for a hotel development on Panglao Island in the country’s Bohol province. The hotel, slated to open in first-half 2020, will sit on a 3,000-square-meter property outside the new Bohol-Panglao International Airport. Notably, the project will be developed as a “condotel”—constructed as a condominium but operated as a hotel—that offers both short-term and long-term stays. Rafaelito Barino, chairman of the Duros Group of Companies, said Duros will build the property and then lease the whole space from Hang Lü, including the hotel operations. Barino added DLPI’s sister company, Regent Property Management International Inc., will be involved in the property management of the business. The idea of partnering with the Chinese group started out as an exploratory project, Barino said, when Duros expressed interest to help develop the Panglao airport. While the company lost that bid, it began developing the hotel project instead. This partnership with another international company comes after Duros sealed deals with Japanese companies in running a language school and in the development of a retirement village in Liloan for the Japanese market.
